Punk band from Oakland, CA that are one of the best from there genre. they were formed in 1987 under the name Sweet Children, they released a few EPs and in 1990, they released 1039 smoothed out slappy hours, it was on an indie label and didn't do so well, but in 1992, they released Kerplunk! which sold Gold, which was rare for a indie album. After that they were signed to reprise records, and released Dookie in 1994.Dookie was very famous,and spawned 4 hit singles, and sold diamond(over 10 mil copies).a year later they released Insomniac which was darker than Dookie but still a hit, although it only sold 2x Platinum. later in 1997 they released there 5th album Nimrod which spawned Good Riddance (Time of your life) a very huge hit song.they released Warning in 2000, international superhits in 2001, and shenaniginas, there b-side album, and there popularity went down. until American Idiot came out in 2004, it held there first Hot 100 singles, and sold 5x Platinum (There 2nd best selling record) after a long hiatus from music they returned with 21st century breakdown in 2009,which has sold gold so far. Hopefully Green Day will go down as one of the best bands ever...Green Day is also a day where you smoke weed the whole day,which is where Green Day got there name from.
