Jolliday is a non-official holiday celebrated on the last weekend of February each year. Every 5th year is a leap year and will be celebrated on the first weekend of March. Jolliday was created by friends, known as the Urban Family, in Somerville, MA in January, 2002. It is a celebration of friendship, family, community, sharing, laughter and high fives. Jolliday is now celebrated annually in the U.S. by more than eighty people in seven states and the District of Columbia. Festivities include a Friday night out, starting at the Beacon Hill Pub (BHP), and a Saturday party located in the Greater Boston area (Boston, Cambridge, Somerville, or Brookline). Traditional garments for the occasion include; orange & purple shirts, & blue jeans to be worn all weekend. Though called Jolliday, it is actually celebrated for an entire weekend, and people flock to Greater Boston to celebrate.
