He loved Katherine too much she didn't love him enough his father abused him called him disappointment but Elena saw the good in him Then here comes the sirebond nobody believed that Elena had feelings for Damon everyone thought Damon took advantage of her Caroline didn't approve but *the sirebond happens only when you have human feelings for someone before you turn*but in the end on S8 Caroline said A love that deep and real wins over everything talking about Damon and Elena Then Sybil Damon fought her because his love for Elena was bigger than her influence
