The word came in common usage in the late 18th century. The first manga magazine was created in 1874, Eshinbun Nipponchi is the name of the manga magazine. In 1905 the manga magazine publishing boom started with the Russo-Japanese War, starting with Tokyo Pakku. A female version of the manga was made, Shojo Sekai, the first shojo (heterosexual romance) magazine was made. Shonen Sekai is the first shounen made, created in 1895. Scanlations exist in this world, fan-scanned manga, either for fun or for helping expand the manga-loving community.
