If the stereotypes are to be believed, then it is the land of the socialized psychopaths. According to stereotypes, the people are: -apathetic/coldly aloof/callous -narcissistic/arrogant/self absorbed -shallowly charismatic/good enough at faking to get rich -well schooled/intelligent/smart enough to get what they want -manipulative -deceitful -bad drivers/impulsive drivers However, though there are no doubt people in the region who fit such a description, there is a silent majority who are pretty good people. Some of them are just so unused to energetic or very happy personalities that they regard them with suspicion, and are uncomfortable with very friendly strangers. They warm up to a person after a while, though, when they grow use to or comfortable with them. Also, not everyone there is rich, liberal, preppy, and/or has gone to private schools. Most New Englanders that I have met live in single story (2 if you count the attic) houses on 1/4 or maybe 1/3 an acre of land, go to public school, don't give a damn about politics, and are annoyed by preps. "Wicked" as a substitute for very is common, though, as rumored.
