Handkerchief code
The handkerchief code, also known as hanky code or the bandana code and sometimes even flagging. Though wearing handkerchiefs goes back to cowboys, however when spoken about the code it usually refers to the code of sexual preferences of the gay or queer community which could be read off of the colour of bandana, originally as a sign for gay men to find out what other want to do ( or not to do ) it has largely become forgotten since its glory days in the 1980's. Depending on which side someone wears the bandana the meaning changes too. The left side often being more dominant than the right.
