An extremely personal (and often extremely time consuming) body of work--usually of the creative variety and often extensive/sprawling in its execution--which was intended purely for personal edification, with no apparent intention of the work in-question ever being shared with anyone in any meaningful way. The choices, language, idioms, imagery and/or motifs employed are often so deeply personal to the original creator that they have little if any coherent meaning to any other viewer, who is/are likely to only gain access to the work itself after the creator has died or gone missing.
