Acronym for an 'Old Wise Lesbian'. This lesbian is often a professor, was alive during the AIDS pandemic, and is a fierce feminist. She is most likely a K.D. Lang and Tracy Chapman fan, and prefers malt over hops. She has contempt for most men as a result of years fighting the hegemony and has had dinner with Gloria Steinem. She has a strong political relationship with the word lesbian and is reluctant to be referred to by any other term. Her sense of humour is sarcastic, occasionally self deprecating, and very sharp. Unlike twinks with older queens, young lesbians do not seek sexual advice or sex from OWLs. Rather, they seek political discourse and the occasional low-level flirt over a London fog.
