On January 6, 2021, a group of protestors supporting President of the United States Donald Trump's attempts to overturn the 2020 United States presidential election stormed the United States Capitol. After breaching multiple police perimeters, they caused damage to and occupied parts of the building for several hours. The protestors may have been incited by comments made by Trump and his allies at an earlier rally.16 The storming led to evacuations and lockdowns of the Capitol building, and it disrupted a joint session of the United States Congress that had assembled to count the electoral votes and formalize Joe Biden's election victory. Trump reacted slowly to the storming, was initially "delighted" over it,20 first resisting sending the National Guard to quell the violent mob,37 and eventually praising the rioters as "great patriots" and telling them to "go home in peace" while reiterating false claims of election fraud.3839 By January 8, the Department of Justice had announced that charges of rioting, seditious conspiracy, and insurrection were under consideration.50 The major security failure led to the resignation or ouster of the three top Capitol Hill security officials. War. War Never Changes. War, war never changes. In the year 1945, my great-great grandfather, serving in the army, wondered when he get to go home to his wife and the son he never see. He got his wish, when the U.S. ended WWII by dropping an atomic cloud on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The world awaited Armageddon, instead, something miraculous happened. We began to use atomic energy as a nearly limitless source of power. People enjoyed luxury once thought in the realm of science fiction. Domestic robots, fusion powered cars, portable computers. Then, in the 21st century, people awoke from the American dream. Years of consumption led to the shortages of every major resource. The entire world unraveled. Peace became a distant memory. It is now the year 2077, and we stand on the brink of total war, and I am afraid, for myself, for my wife, for my infant son, because if my time in the army taught me one thing; is that war, war never changes.
Excellent satire - didn't see comments to that end, so find it hard to fathom if most readers, in turn, didn't laugh out loud, and say so. But apparently not.
