Emo Kid Hoodie

(WARNING)This is a list of experiences and encounters of emo kids that I have had. This isn’t a fact but a stereotype. But what is a stereotype but a basic description of someone or something. Again not all of these are a fact but hey you have to give things a label. If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck its an emo kid... j/k Plus I am a Emo Kid so I can report about it. Straight from the horses mouth. Yes I think we all know that there are many different types of Emo Kids just like every other label. Emo kids are not in a class all of there own. There will always be crossovers exceptions and tangential relations. My intent is to help categorize the effort. How you can identity an Emo Kid: 1.) Different types of Music and Emo genres: Emo is a broad title that covers a lot of different styles of emotionally-charged punk rock. Screamo Kids (Bands like Hawthorne Heights, Sasoin, Rise Against, Senses Fail, Silverstein, Underoath, Atreyu, The Used) Along the lines of Postcore music. Scene/Emo Kids (Bands like A Heartwell Ending) Similar to Scremo mostly local bands. Pop-punk/Emo Kids (Bands like Anberlin, Armor for Sleep, Fall Out Boy, Good Charlotte, Story of the Year, Simple Plan, Yellowcard, Coheed & Cambria, Thursday) Indie/Emo Kids (Bands like Motion City Soundtrack, Dashboard Confessional, The Early November, The Juliana Theory, Something Corporate, The Spill Canvas, Jimmy Eat World) Gothic/Emo Kids....?(Avenged Sevenfold) More Gothic then Emo but they have been linked to Emo. I've never seen Gothic/Emo kids but I live in the Midwest plus Gothic and Emo are very different here. The songs mostly consist of Depressing situations with Friends, Ex girl friends, Staying out late, Time spent with a loved one, Complaining, Heartbreak, Misfortunes, Death, Dying, and Suicide. Some would say the music that they listen to is “whiny”. Well it is just read the lyrics. Here is what the Dictionary says about “whiny”: 1. To utter a plaintive, high-pitched, protracted sound, as in pain, fear, supplication, or complaint. 2. To complain or protest in a childish fashion. Clothing/Hair Style of Emo Kids: Black Zip-up Hoodie (Maybe with a Band on it. My Chemical Romance "Revenge" hoodie I saw 10 different kids last week wearing them at a local show with emo/screamo/scene local bands. Gray and Brown zip-up hoodies are also known to be part of this subculture. Definition of Subculture: Meaning non main stream. People ask me what Emo is all the time. But everyone knows what a Geek or Freak or Jock or Prep is. So don’t take my terminology in a negative way. Black, thick framed horn-rim glasses is popular. Piercing/lip rings could have more then one. Mainly above the neck. Borderline Indie Style clothing Retro. An extra small t-shirt (black/band) some times wears girls t-shirts /random slogans Scene/Emo Kids have been seen wearing Hollister and Abercrombie and Fitch Polo's Pretty tight dark dark blue denim/black pants. Girls pants on guys (they are pushing “The Scene” boarder) Bandana in a pocket of the pants (they are pushing “The Scene” boarder) Shoes black Converse All Star shoes/hightops/American Eagle low tops/ Adidas low tops. Possibly a black studded belt or white/colorful (I personally have a brown leather belt but I want a black studded one.) Rarely carrying around some notebook/poetry book/messenger bag but I hear they are out there. They have dark brown or dyed-black hair to or past the ears covers their face or over one eye. Boys with light natural blonde hair are more borderline Scene. But emo girls can have light natural blonde hair. Chaos Mohawk is another style. The Emo Romulan look - short, thick, greasy, dyed-black hair with bangs cut straight across the forehead, and cut high over the ears. Random Emo Characteristics: Emo is not and never will be close to gothic. Gothic people poop bats.(well not really I just thought it sounded funny so j/k) Emo = emotional Not all emo style kids are emotional it is more of a trend to them less of a way of life. True emo kids have serious emotional problems. ( I do) Your typical emo kid maybe usually be depressed, sad, upset, maybe angry at the world. They always talk about heartbreak. Always-about misfortunes, and never see the upside of things. Often skinny, anorexic thinness (I should know I am) May play an instrument (example acoustic guitar) Beer that synonymous with the Emo scene is Pabst Blue Ribbon. Bi-sexual Emo Guys are are more Scene then Emo. If they play video games They might play Ol' school Nintento or Sega DreamCast. They do not jump around when they go to shows. Online Emo Kids: They have a Livejournal and or a Myspace account. There screen names may consist of "x's" an example guy xxcollapseofmyheartxx example girl xxonethousandtearsxx (not real screen names) Take photos of above or across the face but rarely a direct face shot is taken if so the hair is always in the way. Personally I feel that Emo is no longer a style on its own anymore it has been taken on by other labels and new labels have spawned from them.
