Raise the Cumbrella

Means to 'get a hooker' or 'to find someone to have sex with'. The term dates back to 1860s and was widely used in port towns, where Amsterdamian merchants sailed to. Amsterdamian accent (mokums) and the word 'come' eventually formed a funny sounding proverb 'raise the cumbrella'. Term Cumbrella describes elongated eye lashes, which among sex workers served a double purpose to seduce men and prevent pinkeye. Facial ejaculations and therefor cases of pinkeye were common due to lack of protection wear and condoms in general. Rubber condoms were mass produced only after 1860s. Cumbrella has later become a synonym for condoms. Update: Gerda Puridle -meme is false, though the story behind the term 'Cumbrella' is somewhat truthbased.
