PFLAG

Parents,Families,and Friends of Lesbians and Gays(PFLAG)is an organization that embraces LGBT people.It was started after Jeanne Manford marched with her son in the New York gay pride parade and many gay and lesbian youths asked her to talk to their parents.The first meeting took place in 1973. Not only does PFLAG advocate for civil rights,but it offers support for parents who either accept or have trouble accepting their children. There are around 500 PFLAG chapters in the US. PFLAG's mission statement:PFLAG promotes the health and well-being of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender persons, their families and friends through: support, to cope with an adverse society; education, to enlighten an ill-informed public; and advocacy, to end discrimination and to secure equal civil rights. Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays provides opportunity for dialogue about sexual orientation and gender identity, and acts to create a society that is healthy and respectful of human diversity.
