The acronym can be traced back to around 2009, however recently stan twitter has made the phrase popular. It started with a popular tweet from Nicki Minaj in 2021 which read "I just busted out laughing chile i". Her fanbase, the barbz, then began to spread 'ijbol' around twitter. This isn't the first time that the barbz have picked up phrases from Nicki which spread around as in 2020 in a live Nicki had said "chile anyways so" which became a viral meme over the internet.
