Gammon

A term used to decribe cured or preserved meat primarily pork which is considered inferior 'having bad taste' to and an imitation 'fake' of the fresh or 'real' product. The current 'urbandictionary' use of the word 'exported by the british' with negative connotation originated in Australia by the aboriginals. The origins of the term and linear progression derive first from the greek 'kampe' meaning bending/joint, translated to the latin 'gamba' meaning leg/hock of an animal, then to the french 'jambon' meaning 'ham', then to the old english 'gambon' also meaning 'ham' and finally to the modern english 'gammon'.
