The F slur (faggot, often shortened to fag) is a discriminatory term used against queer men, or ‘less masculine’ men due to often being deemed queer. the word is based on the word for ‘bundle of sticks’, and although it is commonly believed that it is tied to the punishment of burning queer men (‘bundle of sticks for burning’), there is no substantial evidence to back this up. The slur is homophobic, and while there are some cases in which it can mean other things (ie. meatball or cigarette (fag)), it is most commonly used as a pejorative term.
