Aevidum
"I've got your back." Aevidum. It was created from the Latin root “vid” (meaning life) and is an expression of assurance to another person meaning, “I have your back.” This word has yet to make its way into the dictionary. But it will. The Students Against Destructive Decisions Club at Cocalico High School created the word aevidum to raise awareness of the warning signs of depression. With this word and this website (www aevidum dot com), we hope to inform as many people as possible of the warning signs of depression in hopes to prevent suicide. Since aevidum club was started after the death of a student in 2003, it has won numerous honors, most notably SADDs’ prestigious “National Activity of the Year” award, selected from more than 10,000 schools. This past November, aevidum was presented the State’s Activity of the Year Award at the Pennsylvania SADD conference. This club is also one of the first High School groups in the nation to address these taboo issues. Pledging aevidum is easy. Make your way to the “Warning Signs” page, read them, and then email the aevidum postcard to a friend. That’s it. Suicide is preventable. Know the warning signs. Pledge aevidum, save lives.
