Lenin argued that the working class needed guidance from a group of educated, politically aware leaders, consisting of intellectuals and revolutionaries who understood the complexities of politics and economics, could create a clear revolutionary strategy, and ensure the working class aimed for systemic change rather than small reforms. The vanguard's role was to lead and elevate the workers' struggle to achieve revolutionary goals.
