This phenomenon occurs because of the success of one John Hollinger. He is the lone success story of a sports journalists crossing over into the front office of an NBA team. He is the Vice President of Basketball Operations for the Memphis Grizzlies and the the hero of all of his journalistic peers. Because of this, they will applaud and favor anything that he does in hope of his journalistic cinderella story becoming a similar happy ending for them.
