If you don’t already know, gif stands for graphic interchange format. A gif is an animated image, one that moves like an animation. An example of a gif is down below. With both of those things in mind, it should be apparent that gif is pronounced with a hard g and not a soft g, atleast phonetically speaking, because according to the creator of the gif, it is pronounced jif.
