Firefighters are not allowed to break this unspoken brotherhood code. No individual is allowed to obtain the article of clothing any other way since it symbolizes a great level of importance. Just because firecourse occurs does not obligate the firefighter to give away a piece of clothing either, all though it is highly recommended.
