FAMAS
1. Acronym for Fusil d'Assaut de la Manufacture d'Armes de St-Etienne, or "Assault Rifle--St. Etienne Arms Factory". The FAMAS is an assault rifle in use by French military and government units, notably the French Foreign Legion. It uses NATO standard 5.56mm bullets and comes in a variety of models and modifications. It is made in 'bullpup' configuration (imagine loading a magazine behind the handle and trigger .) Usually colored solid black and has a very futuristic/military look. 2. An assault weapon used in some video games, most notably CounterStrike and Metal Gear Solid. Also appears in some movies.
