Excitable Boy
Proper noun. A sarcastic term ascribed to a deranged individual who is enabled and empowered by others' ignorance and excuses. Often someone in a position of entitlement, whose privilege has gone unchecked. A reference to Warren Zevon's 1978 album and title track, "Excitable Boy." The song is the story of socially dysfunctional youth who's antisocial behavior is constantly written off, even as he goes on to rape and kill and young woman. This cute mug reminded me of a quote from an obscure biography I found quite by accident in a tiny hole-in-the-wall 2nd hand shop in Portland, ME in 1987: 'The Life and Times of Lazarus of Bethany'. Quote: " We are all walking wounded held together by the scars of our forbearance and the charity of our sisters and brothers." Truer words have never been said.
