1. a sub-genre of rock music, originated in the 1980s in DC. some emo artists include (but are not limited to) owl city, boys like girls, all american rejects, and jimmy eat world. 2. a style of people. there are many stereotypes, including but not limited to: wearing black 24/7 (there not goth!), worshipping satan, cutting themselves all the time (some emos DONT cut themselves...they just cry), and wanting to die.
