emo
Depends on who you ask and what year you are talking about. In 1996 or so when I was in high school we used the term emo to refer to bands like Sunny Day Real Estate, Remnant, and more well known bands like the Smashing Pumpkins. Now it is used to describe an entire MAINSTREAM culture of kids who think that they are going to get somewhere in life by being stupid. They usually talk about how counterculture they are unaware that emo is a manufactured image sold to them so that industries can make a dollar off of them by selling them records, hair products, clothing, and concert tickets.
