Emo, over the years, has gathered a lot of different definitions. It can be used as the shortened version of emotional, emotionally unstable, emotion, etc. It also has become a genre. A lot of people have stereotyped emo, and like most stereotypes, a little of it CAN be true, but not completly. Some examples are - All emos cut/slit their wrist - They are always depressed -Drama queens/kings -Terrible with kids There are a lot more, but these are actually a few of the least offensive I have come across. Again, there can be some truth to stereotypes, but most of it is made up. Most 'Emos' are a bit emotionally sensitive (hence the name 'emo'), which isn't always a bad thing. They are just a little more aware of their emotions, and aren't afraid to show them. Some are. There also is a genre of music that is called Emo. This tends to get mixed up/combined with scene, goth, and punk.

A word that has been given many meanings. 1. A sub culture in the category with punk, goth & scene. They usually have black choppy hair & wear black, especially skinny jeans, they can wear colour & can have their hair a different colour, they prefer to be alone & listen to music (Genre: punk, metal, emo, ) All of these things are not limited & if an 'emo' says that they are then they are most likely a poser. 2. A genre of music, how I usually describe this is that it has guitar riffs, but instead of the usual edgy rock sound they sound more... soft... Many people hate emo, many people defend it, many people are posers, many people don't understand, emo is very mis-understood, & is not just someone who cuts themselves, it's a type of person, with specific unique preferences to the mainstream, someone different, & usually from my experience, people who carry out the emo style were previously depressed but got through it. An emotional person. Who typically has been through a lot in the past. He/she can be labeled as a rebel. He/she can be seen wearing dark clothing to express his/her feeling. He/ she could be heard listening to rock or metal. Emo It is also a description of a type of music. (But don't get these people mixed up with Punks, Goth, or cutter, because those are very different.)
