Silver, the word comes from old french. It is also used in old french myhtology about La bête du gévaudan - The beast of Gèvaudan who killed over a 100 people. Marie-Jeanne Valet, later called Marie-Jeanne Argent, killed the beast with a simple sword made out of (silver).
