This is because the two are greater than one. Two whole people working to bring out the best in each other elicits awe, admiration and respect. It describes the confidence felt, knowing that things are right.

They managed to squeeze the (edited down) definition onto the side of the mug in its entirety, so no complaints! Was worried it was going to cut off in the middle of a word or something.
The definition really makes it
