A mindless phrase made popular during the early 1990s by nationally syndicated radio celebrity Rush Limbaugh. Thanks largely to Limbaugh’s equally mindless listeners, the phrase grew in popularity to the point that “it is what it is” became anthemic among white supporters of former US President Donald Trump and his ilk.

1st idiot: “Did you hear what Limbaugh says Clinton is gonna do with health care”? 2nd idiot: “Well…’ya know, Clinton is a communist, so…it is what it is”.
