The main thing that defines a hipster regardless of look is the lack of rebelliousness which defined the 90's icons, in the arts.it seems they wish they had of been there.
Their apparently rebellious look is an attempt to " fake" something they don't have.Hipsters try as hard as possible to fake ideals, and values of the Gen X heros.

A hipster will not: own a gun,take heavy drugs,hate the system, like punk or aggressive music
