Groove Metal or alternatively Post Thrash is a sub genre of Extreme Metal that became popular after the Thrash Metal movement of the mid 80s. The band Exhorder is credited for its creation with the 1990 album 'Slaughter In The Vatican' and the band Pantera for the genre's popularization with their 1990 and 1992 albums 'Cowboys From Hell' and 'Vulgar Display Of Power'. Groove Metal combines elements of Thrash Metal, Heavy Metal, Hardcore Punk and minor elements Death Metal. Groove Metal is considered by most, at it's core to be a slowed down version of Thrash Metal played around mid - tempo, emphasising some qualities over others. Although some Groove Metal bands have been known to speed up the tempo on certain songs, an example being Pantera's 'Fucking Hostile'. Popular Groove Metal bands include: Pantera, Sepultura, Exhorder, White Zombie, Rob Zombie, Machine Head, Lamb Of God, Five Finger Death Punch and Fear Factory. Groove Metal has been noted with being the inspiration for Nu Metal and some forms of Metalcore most prominently Avenged Sevenfold.
