Femism is a collection of ideologies that have existed for around 200 years or so. It is used as a blanket term for many things, but really there are as many types of feminism as there are cats. At its root, feminism has been about equal rights for women, (votes, pay, legal, social, respect).

Some people accuse feminists of hating men or viewing women as superior. Some radfems are like that, but most aren't. The very difficult struggles of women in the 20th century has resulted in signifigant gains for women IN 1ST WORLD COUNTRIES, to the point where some crazies call men worse off than women. Feminism isn't solely focused on women (it's more focused on womens issues, but most fems don't ignore men's issues), most feminists do not view men as inferior.

Feminists are mostly proponents of that people a. shouldn't judge based on gender and b. aren't limited by their biology. Thanks to feminists, sexism and rape are despised, pay diff. and legal discrim. are illegal, sex is much less taboo, the patriachy is gone and now women don't obey husbands or fathers, among many others. Now to [the dark side]. An new feminist ideology has emerged, not focusing on places that need feminism, like Iran where [women's rights] are in [the dark ages], they instead focus on people's [free speech] [first world] countries. These feminists focus on a very vauge patriachy, and rape culture, and use it as an escuse to control people's speech. Remeber that it is a diverse label and you should be fine.
