First Nations originally named this area 'Soyoos'. This means 'the narrows' meaning narrowing of the water. Osoyoos lake has a very narrow area where a bridge divides the town. Later, some jerk came along and decided to add an O to the name Soyoos. Now it's called Osoyoos. Some suspect it might have [something to do] with having to match [neighboring] town 'Oliver' or the area 'Okanagan.'
