I came up with this name back in the mid 1990s. Was just getting on [the internet] and everyone was thinking up a name for themselves. I was only [interested] in Gator football, I had gone to Gator games all of my adult life at that time 17 years. They were calling the stadium the Swamp, Steve Spurrier liked it and began using it.

So I went to the Swamp therefor I was a Swampee or as I liked spelling it, Swampie. Some have used it since, not sure if anyone before.

I am now 60 years old, have been a blogger on Gators sports for almost 30 years did some before the mid-1990s.

Began with the Gainesville Sun, moved to Gator Country, then was with Sunshine Network for six years and back to Gator Country. I am now retired.

I wasn't a great writer, much of my work I wish I had never gotten myself into. I always tried, learned to edit more and try and control my temper more. But was 90 miles from what I tried to report on and was never allowed access to the team.

There is no definition for the Swampie I was. I did wear Hawaiian shirts, the only things I had that fit comfortably. [I love college] fans [unfortunately] they don't all love each other and often fans of the same group don't like each other.
