To Basteraud is to use a lie to cover yourself when you have been caught out in a lie . In honour of the French rugby player who claimed to have been assaulted in Wellington,NZ going back to his hotel . When police noted that he had in fact entered the hotel uninjured, he 'fessed up that he had slipped in his hotel room . Turned out his team mates had beaten him in the hotel for being out of control . Hence the expression "to Basteraud" , or to use a lie when caught out lying.
