The original idea was conceived by the Boredoms, a Japanese [experimental music] group. They started it with 77 BoaDrum, which took place at Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park, in Brooklyn, NY. 88 BoaDrum was actually 2 separate concerts. The concerts took place at the La Brea Tar Pits in Los Angeles, California and the [Williamsburg] waterfront in Brooklyn, New York. The LA concert was hosted by the Boredoms, and the NY concert by Gang Gang Dance.
