Dirt chicken stores often have names like 'Chicken Cottage', 'Texas Fried Chicken' or 'Southern Fried Chicken', and the colours and logo's of the signs may imitate KFC. Can also be shortened to 'dirt'. The term originated due to the perceived lower quality of the product compared to KFC (owing to the cheaper price), and because of the 'dirty' appearance of the stores in question. For this reason, 'dirt' may be applied to other take-away foods where the price is low and hygiene [questionable], eg, 'dirt curry', 'dirt kebabs'.
