The terminal phase of the process that has turned stable, secure employment into an exception rather than a rule. In late‑stage precarization, even previously protected sectors (education, healthcare, civil service) are converted into gig arrangements; labor protections are actively dismantled; and workers internalize precarity as normal, ceasing to imagine stability as possible. It is characterized by the disappearance of the career, the normalization of side hustles, and the acceptance that retirement, home ownership, and healthcare are unattainable. Late‑stage precarization marks the point where insecurity becomes permanent and resistance seems futile.
