An interdisciplinary field that applies sociological, anthropological, and political‑economic analysis to the “hard” sciences—physics, chemistry, biology, and their subfields. It examines how these sciences are actually practiced, how funding shapes research agendas, how laboratory hierarchies operate, how scientific consensus is formed, and how the distinction between “hard” and “soft” sciences is itself a social construction with institutional effects.
