By framing unjust laws as simply “the law,” and any challenge as “illegal” or “[unrealistic],” legallighting creates a reality where the target feels that opposition is futile and that they are the ones who are [out of step] with reality. It often appears in contexts where law is used to enforce [oppression], and criticism is deflected with appeals to legal process.
