Unlike reactionbait, which often aims for general shock, triggerbait targets specific psychological vulnerabilities. Creators may feign trauma, mock genuine suffering, or create content designed to “trigger” certain communities (e.g., making light of sexual assault, mocking mental health struggles, trivializing historical atrocities). The goal is to ignite controversy that drives algorithmic amplification.
