Originally a shortening of the misogynistic slur “femoid,” foid in current popular usage refers not to women in general but to a specific archetype of Western woman who is highly socially integrated, hyper-conformist, hyper-materialistic, and delusional. It is sometimes described as the female counterpart to “incel,” though the term carries markedly different connotations when applied to women.

The word denotes the type of woman who chooses single motherhood, pays premium rent for a modest studio apartment, and supports decriminalizing certain crimes on the grounds that the system itself is the true offender. She adopts every new TikTok trend instantly and uncritically; her personality is assembled from layered social-media aesthetics, therapy-speak, and “healing era” rhetoric. Her chief life goals revolve around living on a yacht or spending afternoons drinking. She does not date men but instead “curates experiences” with them, while reserving exceptions for those who possess substantial money or status (or a yacht) despite her professed “I hate all men” worldview.
