‘Hinge’ is an adjective. To ‘Hinge it’ - is to be somewhat out of your mind as a result of taking illicit substances. This word/phrase [originated] in Carterton, Oxfordshire in the early 1990’s, where a person called Mark Heaton, was [out of control] on some mind bending drugs. At the time his friends convinced him that he had hinges in his arms and legs. He started moving his body thinking that were full of hinges - he began to ‘Hinge it’. It was supremely [entertaining]. As a result this legendary phrase was born! And Mark thankfully made a full recovery. No harm done. Now - in Oxfordshire - if someone is losing it due to drugs, they are known to be ‘hinging it’. It became part and parcel of the Oxfordshire rave and nightclub culture and is still used today.
