The willful refusal of corporate leadership to acknowledge or adopt emerging technology, trends, or innovations. This often leads to [catastrophic] business failure. Most commonly found in legacy companies where senior execs are allergic to change and cling to outdated models like it’s still 1995. Symptoms include: - Laughing off disruptive startups - Refusing to invest in [digital transformation] (including AI) - Saying things like “This is how we’ve always done it” - Holding 3-hour meetings to ignore 3-minute solutions - Exaggerated paranoia about worst case outcomes trying new things. - Refusal to invest extra money just because it might lower short term profitability and might temporarily upset investors. - Pathetically trying to look “new and hip” by wasting money on asinine expenditures DEI and wokeness thinking customers will overlook outdated products and services. This was especially problematic 2021-2024 but still [unfortunately] prevalent in many corporations. This is the “Bud Light” effect.
