truffledogging (verb) 1. Human Edition: The art of digging through the same junk pile, drawer, or bag over and over again, convinced the thing you lost must be there, only to find [everything but] what you're looking for. Inevitably, the lost item resurfaces three days later in plain sight, mocking you. 2. Dog Edition: When your dog goes full chaotic archaeologist, tearing through blankets, pillows, and pile of laundry, launching objects into orbit, all in pursuit of crumbs, forgotten toys, or [literally nothing]. Bonus points if they leave a scene of pure devastation. Example: "My dog started truffledogging on the couch last night. He didn’t find food, but I found my ex’s sock from 2019." Origins: Combines “truffle hunting” (thanks, pigs) with “dogging” (thanks, chaos). Together, they form a [perfect storm] of fruitless effort and glorious mess.
