This can be either serious or ironic. If uncertain, please refer to said person’s [vocabulary], their mental health history, and the specific situation before responding accordingly. If you’re still unsure, it’s best to ask the person how they meant it and try to be supportive because it can be risky to [accidentally] brush it off as sarcastic when it isn’t. Always show the ones you care about that you care! It can be used to represent two different emotions: 1. The person actually wants to kill themself. Typically not used in a joking [conversation] but use what you know about the person before responding. Do they say it often? Did they end the statement with a period? Did they say sorry/thanks before or after? If they seem sad or reserved, please check in on them. Especially if they start a [conversation] like this and don’t immediately follow it up with something annoying that happened. 2. This person is either frustrated or [embarrassed]. Something shitty probably happened to them and this is how they’re expressing that emotion. Feel free to remain wary if someone uses this too much however, because there’s a chance it could be a cry for help. However, try to avoid pointing it out mid-conversation to avoid awkwardness or discomfort. If you can, try to check in on your friend more and make time for them; suffering or not, I’m sure they appreciate it
