Abu Zachariah was the leader of the Maute Group (now Daulah Islamiyah) that was killed in a skirmish with Filipino authorities in Marawi City in 2023. He was known by his comrades to go into battle with a glock pistol, mag dumping it into the direction of Filipino troops and police alike. He was known by his former wife to be angry and demanding. He actively participating in the invasion of Marawi in 2017 where he escaped by boat across Lake Lanao (where Marawi is situated) before hiding in the local jungle from Filipino troops. He and his group of militants constantly ran through the vast jungle of the province of Lanao del Sur in order to hide or ambush police, AFP or rival rebel groups. His valor and bravery was unmatched by other leaders before him, thus prompting anonymous citizens of Marawi City to hang a banner commemorating the martyrdom of Abu Zachariah. Never will his brethren forget him as long as their short lives will last without food nor water in the merciless jungles of the southern Philippines as drone strikes and artillery strike them regularly. Never will they stop their Jihad against their enemies.
