The Colchester caboodle is a regional dish consisting of fried or stewed mushrooms in an indistinguishable greyish goop. It is commonly served at weddings as a vegetarian option in order to punish vegetarians for their life choices. Though unconfirmed, the dish is believed to date back to the early medieval period and to have been used in an attempt to deter Norse raiding parties, hence the alternative name 'Saxon sludge'
