North End Gipsy Someone who lives in the council estate bit of an otherwise nice town. Generally, because of the prevailing wind direction, the poor people live on the north side of town and so the rancid stink of their poverty doesn't offend the other inhabitants. In the town where I grew up, there was a street called 'North End' and the notorius family in the area was called Negus (or Negs) for short - no coincidence I think.
