Mushary - also known as bush-riding - is the act of intentionally jumping into a bush or shrubbery - preferably head-first, and typically whilst wearing a boiler suit. This is done for the purpose of eliciting laughs or causing a scene and is widely documented and distributed on YouTube. The word itself is a portmanteau of "Bush", "Shrubbery" and "Manchuria" - the site of a war in which soldiers were known to jump with abandon into trenches so as to escape gunfire. Mushary is of course a much more frivolous past time. A particularly successful act of Mushary will result in the sight of a rigid body sticking halfway out of a thick hedge, feet pointing towards the sky. The absurdity is the point. Some enthusiasts might claim that it is a form of anti-capitalist, anti-authoritarian protest, but there is no such formal organization.
