Raumdeuter is a German word that translates to "space [investigator]" or "space interpreter". The word is used as a soccer/football term to describe a player that occupies different areas on the pitch rather than one specific position. Their position gives them more freedom to roam and they are usually very difficult to mark. A raumdeuter's most valuable asset is the ability to identify and exploit space in and around the final third. They usually score or assist by being in the right space at the right time, which requires excellent [anticipation], intelligent movement, and spatial awareness, almost like a game of chess. The first raumdeuter was German footballer Thomas Müller. He coined the term when asked in an interview in 2011 about his [unique style] of play. Some other players that play in a similar style are Dele Alli and Jose Callejon.
